Group Activities

Here is a selection of activities and links to our curriculum.

Personal , Social and Emotional Development

  • For the children to continue to treat living things and the environment around them with respect, care and concern.
    To support the children in their transition to P.1.

The Arts

  • Artistic learning opportunities will continue to be created through a variation of resources.

World Around Us

  • Focus upon the importance of the Environment around them.
  • For the children to continue to develop their sense of wonder and curiosity.

Physical Development and Movement

  • To continue to focus upon fine motor development such as pencil control and scissor skills.

Early Mathematical Experiences

  • To develop the understanding and use of mathematical language – Floating and Sinking
    The development of Sequencing and Time
  • For the children to be able to talk about daily routines with a focus upon transitioning to P.1.

Language Development

  • To continue to encourage the children to listen and engage in conversation with the early years practitioner and their peers.
  • Creating tailored learning opportunities for the children to be able to fully express their thoughts, ideas and feelings with increasing confidence.
  • To continue to nurture the children’s love of stories.

Special Events

  • Beach Trip – Wednesday 18th June: We will be leaving at 9:15am and returning at 1:30pm.
  • Sports Day – TBC
  • Fun Day – TBC

Theme Activities

Here is a selection of themed activities that will extend the children’s knowledge and learning:

  • Imaginative Play: A range of role play activities including Under The Sea themed, picnic on the beach, packing our bag for the beach and ice-cream shop.
  • Art Area: Seaside collages, Free-painting and drawing, Shell-printing, Treasure Maps, Make their own pirate flags, Junk Art
  • Dough Area: using shells to make imprints/patterns, making objects that you would bring on your holiday and using resources such as fresh flowers, scissors, herbs, essential oils
  • Sand Tray: Fine sand – Pirates Treasure Hunt
    Wet sand – Make their own sandcastles using buckets and spades, using resources
    to decorate their sandcastles such as shells, jewels and mini pirate flags.
  • Water Tray: Floating and sinking with a focus upon developing mathematical language and making predictions – Float/floating/floated, Sink/sinking/sank, heavy, light, material, object, surface, rise, strong, hollow, solid, experiment, load, prediction, water-level, weight.
  • Table top: Creative Table- tailored learning activities focusing upon free-cutting, gluing and sticking and pencil/mark making skills.
    • Tuft Tray – Beach themed using natural resources and materials from the outside environment (sand, stones, pebbles, shells, seaweed).
  • Outdoor: Sports Day Activities, fishing rods and water and ice cream shop
  • Story Area: The following books listed is only a small example of what we read every day at Early Learners.
    • Fiction books: Danny McGee Drinks the Sea, Lost on the Beach, On Our Holiday, The Singing Mermaid, Lighthouse Mouse, Pollys Picnic
    • Non-fiction books: Under the Sea, Secrets of the Sea, Floating and Sinking, Underwater Animals.

Children’s Cancer Unit Charity

  • Dear parents, we would very much appreciate that if you are planning on buying gifts for the staff for the end of the year, that you would instead make a donation to The Children’s Cancer Unit Charity, through a collection box on the registration table.
  • Please do not feel under any obligation to make a donation but we feel this is a very worthy cause.
  • Thank you in advance for your support.

Important Notice

  • Due to the better weather, we will be taking most of our learning outdoors, therefore we would like to recommend for the month of June, that all children are wearing appropriate footwear, eg trainers.
  • N.B Please ensure your child has sun-cream on before they come to school.
