Our Aims

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

• Imaginative Play – For the children to continue to develop an awareness of personal worth by nurturing their self-confidence and self-control through role play and small world play using bunnies, eggs and hats.

The Arts

• St Patricks Day – head bands and themed art activities.
• Easter – cards, decorating easter eggs, making easter baskets and easter crowns.

World Around Us

• How magnets are used within our preschool environment and how it relates to the outer world.
• Discussion around the season of Spring and how it relates to new life and new beginnings.
• The children will have the opportunity to observe eggs hatching in our own incubator and will be closely involved in the daily care of the chicks.

Early Mathematical Experiences

• For the children to explore the concept of magnetism for example sorting magnetic/non – magnetic objects into piles using giant magnets.
• To develop the children’s mathematical language during the course of play – ‘magnetic, non – magnetic, attract, repel, north pole, south pole.’
• Extend the ‘investigation corner’ to investigate the workings of clocks, bells and torches.

Language Development

• Discussion on Magnets: how they work, ‘who, what, where, why, when’ they are used.
• Circle time on St Patrick – who was he? How did he come to Ireland?
• Language associated with the development of the chicks.

Physical Development & Movement

• Obstacle course and outdoor activities concentrating on developing gross motor skills – cycling, balancing, jumping, hopping, skipping, throwing and catching a ball.
