Group Activities
Here is a selection of activities and links to our curriculum.
Personal , Social and Emotional Development
- Imaginative Play Making a Halloween Den with Mr Liam.
- Role playing. Basic table top games (to reinforce turntaking, number and colour).
The Arts
- Firework pictures using paint and marbles in a tray.
- Autumn art activities using a range of sensory resources e.g. Junk Art, paint, glue, twigs, leaves and pumpkin seeds.
World Around Us at the Sand Tray
- Playing with conkers. Adding water to the sand. What will happen? Predicting change.
Physical Development and Movement
- Shape tunnel, trucks Climbing, balancing, catching and throwing a ball (strengthening gross motor skills)
- Dough play: using matchsticks and googly eyes to make hedgehogs (strengthening fine motor skills)
Early Mathematical Experiences at the Water Tray
- Bottles, funnels, pouring and filling.
- Using mathematical language eg empty, full, half full, over flowing.
- Using natural resources to develop and progress counting skills: conkers, pinecones, acorns.
Science
- Halloween Baking – Pumpkin Biscuits. Observing what happens when ingredients are added – when wet ingredients are added to dry.
- Colour mixing. Exploring green, red, yellow, orange and brown.
World Around Us
- Halloween safety (when holding sparklers), Season of Autumn, environmental changes (tress, weather)
Language Development at the Story Corner
- Meg and Mog. These books are a lovely way to introduce your child to independent reading. The pictures make the story easy to follow and “read”.

At Home
- Encourage children to observe changes in colour of leaves. Language relating to leaves: twirling, swirling, falling, crispy, crunchy.
- This is an excellent opportunity for your child to develop their language in the home environment relating to our current theme.
- Please take time out to watch the videos we send on the Seesaw app with your child. We will be sending out videos of our ‘Autumn Concert’ and ‘Halloween Concert’.

- We are open the afternoon of Wednesday 29th October from 1.30pm for those children who normally attend 6pm session
Halloween Fancy Dress
- Wednesday 22nd October
- Party games : Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs, Musical Statues, The Ghost Train.
- Everyone’s a winner! Some Halloween activities can be frightening for young children so please talk to your child about Halloween traditions, eg fireworks, ghosts, dressing up, pretend play.
Important Announcement
- From Monday 6th October, your child will receive a book pack as part of ‘The Big Bedtime Read’. You will receive a new book pack every Monday.
- Please return the book pack by Thursday.
