Learning Through Play

Play enables children to develop socially, cognitively, emotionally and physically.

Young children learn when they are given responsibilities suitable to their age and stage of development. We respect them as individual learners and encourage them to experiment and make mistakes through play. We view play as a tool that a child can use to explore and make sense of the world around them. This means a child can use different types of play to enhance their learning. Children must be allowed the opportunity to take charge of their own learning and change the direction of play as they wish.

We work to develop:

  • Positive attitudes to learning
  • Building upon each child’s individual strengths and needs
  • Providing time for sustained involvement in play
  • A child’s experience of achievement

We aim to nurture a child’s:

  • Independence and confidence
  • Self-confidence and self-worth
  • Curiosity
  • Self-discipline
  • Co-ordination
  • Respect for others
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Creativity
  • Sense of wonder
  • Decision-making
