Floating our boats at Minnowburn

Our annual trip to Minnowburn was a great success. We enjoyed our excursion across the bridge and through the forest on the hunt for our little steam which was perfect for floating our boats.

The children were able to observe the weather and talked about when it was sunny and it was cold “because the sun hides behind the clouds.” We were fortunate that we had all brought raincoats.

The children enjoyed making their boats at home. In nursery we were doing lots of experiments to test floating and sinking. the children were making predictions about buoyancy and did a fantastic jon applying this to their creations. Some of the boats had to be brought back to shore with a fishing net.

We saw Shaw’s bridge and talked about what makes a bridge strong and sturdy and how bridges are able to stay up when the weather conditions are tough. We also saw a fallen tree that had been uprooted during a storm.

Then it was a walk to the playpark and a picnic lunch to finish off a perfect day.
